Chevening Scholarships

Of all the UK scholarships on offer to international students, Chevening is one of the most prestigious and competitive.

As well as offering fully-funded master’s degrees, it is a unique opportunity for the next generation of leaders, influencers, and decision-makers to develop a relationship with the UK that will grow throughout their careers.

What are Chevening Scholarships?

Funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office and partner organisations, Chevening Scholarships are awarded to individuals with demonstrable leadership potential and strong academic backgrounds. The scholarship offers full financial support to study for any eligible master’s degree at any UK university while gaining access to a wide range of exclusive academic, professional, and cultural experiences.

Since the programme was created in 1983, over 50,000 outstanding professionals, have had the opportunity to develop in the UK through Chevening. There are more than 1,500 scholarships on offer globally for the 2023-24 academic year, demonstrating the UK’s ongoing commitment towards developing the leaders of tomorrow.

How does it work?

All applicants undergo a rigorous selection process. The most suitable applicants are then personally selected by British embassies and high commissions around the world.

As a fully-funded scholarship, you’ll receive tuition or programme fees, living expenses, and return flights to the UK. You will also gain access to exclusive networking events, workshops, talks, internships, and volunteering opportunities, giving you a diverse introduction to life in a global role.

Who is it for?

Chevening Scholars have ambition, leadership potential, a strong academic background, and an excellent record of rising to prominent positions in their countries across a range of fields.

Designed to support Britain’s public diplomacy overseas, Chevening Scholarships provide the skills and experiences required to achieve at the highest levels whilst supporting strong relationships with the UK in the future.

If you’re an ambitious leader in the making and are looking for a postgraduate experience that will give you the very best preparation for success, then a Chevening Scholarship could be for you.

How to apply

You can apply for a Chevening Scholarship by selecting your country from the dropdown list at www.chevening.org/apply. After submitting your application, it will be assessed against Chevening’s eligibility criteria. Those applications that are deemed eligible will then be assessed by independent reading committees, who will create a longlist of applicants.

If you are longlisted, you will be invited to submit references and attend an interview with the British embassy or high commission in the country to which you applied. These face-to-face interviews are conducted in English by a panel, who will ask you questions about your personal and professional goals, and how a Chevening Scholarship would help you achieve them. Your choice of courses will also be taken into consideration. The panel will then score your interview against the global Chevening criteria.

What is the deadline for applications?

Applications for 2024-25 Chevening Scholarships are now open until 7 November 2023 at 12:00 GMT (midday UK time).

Successful applicants will be announced in June 2024. If you are among them, you will begin your UK studies in September/October 2024.
